Welcome to The Terrace School, Alexandra. Thank you for taking the time to find out about ‘The Terrace School family’. We are very proud of the learning we provide for our children in a caring environment where each individual has opportunities to gain ‘satisfaction from success through effort: ma te kaha - ka u ‘.

We are also very pleased to be part of The Terrace School’s immediate community and also the wider Alexandra and unique Central Otago Region. The wider community recognizes our school as an educational leader who is prepared to take the initiative and be innovative but at the same time, share our passion for teaching and learning with others.

Our school focuses on numeracy and literacy alongside the expectation that children will learn about themselves and how to treat others the way they would wish to be treated. The attention to fundamental learning enables us to promote thinking skills and teach children how to learn in an ‘inquiry’ based approach.

Our desire to provide a stimulating environment for learning is reflected in learning opportunities also being offered outside of the classroom, such as educational experiences at Aoraki/Mt Cook, Dunedin, Queenstown, Fiordland, Lake Dunstan and The Catlins. Also the special Central Otago climate and environs ensures physical activity can be promoted in skills based programmes and then on into traditional and new sports.

The school’s passion for the arts sees the likes of The Terrace School Choir and Kapa Haka Group making guest appearances in Dunedin as well as locally. Dance and the visual arts are also well represented in our children’s interests while the Central Otago strength in performing arts is nurtured both here and on into Dunstan High School our next door neighbour.

We encourage an open family environment and invite you to visit us so you can see the school in action for yourself. The Principal will answer any questions you may have and be happy show you around.

The Terrace School, Alexandra is a special place.
